2008 Year 4 Level Camp

Dunman High School Year 4 level camp 2008 saw about 370 of our students packing their bags set to embark on a five-day fun-filled adventure journey. The ‘Age of Pirates’, the theme for this year’s level camp, stretched between 12 and 16 May 2008. This adventure camp marked a significant moment in every one of our students’ life as the various challenging tasks were set to test their resilience, endurance, perseverance and determination – to be ready for a new journey – the Senior High years.
Our Principal, Mr Sng, aptly puts across in his foreword for the Level Camp booklet - “Very often, the informal interactions and activities outside class provide the opportunities for us to learn important lessons about life – to gain a better understanding of ourselves, our strengths, weaknesses and the values that we inspire to uphold in years to come.” With this in mind, the Level Camp Committee decided to provide Year 4 Dunmanians a chance to experience an adventure camp that was held at Kota Rainforest Resort and Adventure Centre in Johor, Malaysia. The outdoor experience encompassed several team bonding activities, a river cruise, outdoor training sessions, a campfire as well as land, water and air expeditions – trekking along the Pelepah Waterfall, kayaking along the Johor River and scaling the Gunung Panti Barat (Mt Panti). By the end of Day 5, many students still wished that the camp had continued. It was truly a measure of the true Dunmanian Spirit!
The entire camp experience was focused to revolve around the School Motto – Honesty, Trustworthiness, Moral Courage and Loyalty. The camp provided students with opportunities to build stronger bonds amongst one another, thus fostering greater collaboration to undertake challenging tasks and emerging from them successfully. This camp also became a platform for student leaders and their fellow peers to not only develop their critical thinking skills and showcase their creativity, but to further develop their leadership skills as well – therefore fulfilling Dunman High’s vision to nurture leaders with a global outlook.
