Jul 06: SMTP Cyberjaya Malaysia
Our school has been selected by the Ministry of Education to participate in a School Twinning Programme with Malaysia to enhance educational linkages with top schools in Malaysia and strengthen bilateral educational collaborations between Singapore and Malaysia. On the 6th to 9th of July, the Y3 Malay Special Programme (MSP) students, accompanied by 3 teachers, Mr Chew Tah Lee, Mdm Ilyana and Mdm Noorizan Beevi, attended an immersion trip to Malaysia. This trip marks our second visit by our students to our twinning school, Sekolah Seri Puteri (SSP) in Cyberjaya, Malaysia.
This programme provided our MSP students with the opportunity to forge long-term friendships with students from Malaysia, learn more about the culture, tradition and religion of the Malays in Malaysia, and converse more confidently in Malay with students from SSP.
During the 4D3N trip, our students visited many different places of interest in Malaysia. One first stop was at Kampung Sarang Buaya where our students were given the opportunity to try many different activities, from gasing-playing to eating authentic Malay cuisine using their own hands and weaving beautiful little rattan baskets! They also went on a river cruise to catch the breathtaking view of the glowing fireflies along the river banks, went up the 86th floor of the Petronas Twin Tower, and went on a guided tour the National Museum, Palace, Monument and Mosque. Through these visits, we got to find out more about the history of Malays from centuries ago to the present times.
The subsequent days, we immersed ourselves in Malaysian culture whereby we observed and joined in their school lessons and stayed in the school dormitory. Apart form the hospitable treatment from the teachers and students from SSP, we were pleased to have a pleasant exchange with students from 2 other countries who are present for the immersion in SSP together with us and they were ITIS CANIZZARO from ITALY and MODERN SCHOOL from INDIA. On the last day, SSP prepared an elaborate and entertaining concert for us to celebrate new and existing friendships.
We are certainly looking forward to hosting them and seeing them again in the near future!
