Pedagogy

In DHS-BSP, Chinese and English teachers collaborate to design and implement the BSP programme to achieve a rich and dynamic fusion of language use, translation and literary study. While the English Language Arts lessons aim to develop analytical and creative language and literary skills in stuents, the Higher Chinese lessons focus on writing skills and cross-cultural perspectives. Both language courses are designed to take students to new levels of creative expression and critical analysis, while strengthening the fundamentals of formal writing and oral presentation.

In addition, DHS-BSP conducts Bicultural Studies enrichment lectures and Bilingual Programmes for our upper Junior High students, so as to motivate them to offer “China Studies” at Senior High level. This academic integration aims to produce Dunmanians who can effectively interact with China as well as relate to the West.

In order to provide an authentic learning environment for our students, immersion programmes to tertiary institutions in China and the United States are organized annually. Senior High BSP students may participate in short-term study immersion programmes at top China universities.

To better understand the economic and political developments in modern day China, BSP students also visit the rural communities, government agencies and commercial enterprises as part of their immersion learning experiences in China.

 

德明双文化课程的华文与英文老师在高级华文及英文文艺(Language Arts)的语文课程基础上,携手策划一系列的双文化深广课程,如双语课程。英文文艺课程着重于训练学生对文学文本的分析及鉴赏能力;高级华文课程则着重于训练学生的语文书写能力以及对中西文化差异的辨析能力。在语文课程的基础上,双语课程进一步提供文学语料、生活语料及语文翻译的学习,让学生在写作与口语能力得以强化的同时,创意和批判性思维能力亦得以提升。

为了让德明双文化学生进一步认识中国及西方社会的现况,德明双文化课程特安排双文化课程学生到中国及美国的重点高等学府进行短期的浸濡学习,体验当大学生的生活。在所有的中国浸濡学习中,德明双文化课程特意安排学生参观中国当地农村、政府机关及私人企业,加强学生对当代中国经济与政治发展的了解。
