Warmest greetings to all - Welcome to 10, Tanjong Rhu, home of the Dunmanian family. 

To many people, a glass and diamond may look somewhat alike. In Dunman High, we treat each and every new student who joins our family as a raw and unpolished diamond instead of a glass. The role of our teachers is akin to that of skilled craftsmen. As skilled craftsmen, their role is to polish these rough diamonds and turn every child into brilliant pieces at the end of the 6-year Dunman High journey.

In the first two years of the academic journey, which I would consider as foundation years, our teachers as craftsmen work towards moulding the character and instilling right values in our students. We believe that it is the character of the person that matters most, not his social background or academic qualifications. In the words of Confucius 'A gentleman who is not steadfast will not be able to command respect and his learning would not be sound'. We ensure that every Dunmanian embrace the values of honesty, trustworthiness, moral courage and integrity (诚信勇忠). We make sure that every student has an internal moral compass to navigate their life so that they can make right choices and do right things even when no one is looking.

Following the foundation years would be the consolidation years. At the end of Junior High, our teachers ensure that students are equipped with 21st century competencies that allow them to collaborate with one another, communicate effectively, and think creatively and innovatively.  This is achieved through our customised Dunman High Programme (DHP) curriculum which promotes interdisciplinary learning and application of knowledge to real world problems which are critical in this global age.  

In the Senior High, the focus is more on striving for excellence. Excellence here is more than academic achievements. The distinctive traits that mark Dunmanians from others must be obvious by this time. Benefiting from the bilingual and bicultural education, students should be able to straddle both Eastern and Western cultures with ease and at the same time have a firm grasp on their Chinese roots. They should be able to demonstrate sterling leadership qualities grounded in sound values and ethics.  They should have the genuine desire to care and serve the community without expectations and truly live up to the school mission 'Care, Serve and Lead'. I am proud to say that our quest for excellence paid off when our pioneer DHP student Tan Bao Jia garnered the President Scholarship Award in 2009, placing Dunman High in the same league with the top Junior Colleges.

In the last five decades, Dunman High has made its name as a premier SAP school built on a strong foundation in Chinese culture and values. I have faith that every Dunmanian will continue to carry the good name of our school with pride and uphold the rich traditions that have been passed on for generations. Together as a family, we will carry on the Dunmanian spirit, shining brilliantly just like a polished diamond.

大家好!欢迎来到德明政府中学的温馨住家——10号丹戎禺路。

对许多人而言,玻璃貌似钻石。但德明政府中学不会将新成员视同一块普通的玻璃,而是将他们视如一颗未加工的钻石。教师们好比技艺高超的工匠。孩子们在经历六年的德明学习之旅后,将被这些工匠打造成璀璨亮丽、耀眼夺目的钻石。

学生在德明的首两年是教师们为学生打下扎实基础的阶段。教师们为孩子们努力塑造正直的品格、灌输正确的价值观。我校坚信,一个人的品格最为重要,而不是其身份背景或学业成绩。孔子曰:“孔子曰:“一个君子,不厚重,便不威严。能向学,可不固陋。行事当以忠信为主。”我校将确保每位德明人内化并体现“诚”、“信”、“勇”、“忠”,并给予学生们一道引领他们在生命的汪洋中探索,永远不会迷失自我的生命指南针。

紧接着基础阶段的,是巩固学习的阶段。我校的学生们在中学阶段已掌握21世纪技能——学习如何与学伴合作、如何有效地沟通、如何进行创意思维。这些关键性的技能都融合在我校的直通车课程,因为德明直通车课程提倡跨学科学习,以及知识的运用。

我校的高中部侧重于追求卓越。我校对卓越的定义是超出学业成就范围的。至高中阶段,我校学生应已具备某些令他人能辨别他们为德明人的特征。我校学生有幸沉浸在双语和双文化的环境,因此学生们应当扎根于华族文化,但又在东西文化中游刃有余。他们应当立足于正确的价值观,展示优越的领导才能。他们也应当拥有真诚为大众服务的意愿,秉持学校使命“关怀、服务、领导”的精神。我校追求卓越的成果展现在首届毕业生陈葆佳同学身上。她于2009年荣获总统奖学金,使得德明政府中学与顶尖初级学院平起平坐。

身为拥有50年悠久历史的特选中学,德明政府中学已成为一所拥有深厚华族传统和价值观的优质学府。我相信每位德明人会将把德明的名声和传统发扬光大。身为一家人,我们将让德明精神发光发热,发出如同美钻照耀出的璀璨光辉!
