Benjamin says:
The entire Dunman High experience has taught me that education is not simply confined within school; it takes place everywhere, every circumstance and every time when it comes to developing a sound value system. The onus is on each and every Dunmanian, regardless of socio-economic background, to relate with and exemplify the school motto of 诚(honesty),信 (trustworthiness), 勇(courage), 忠(loyalty) so that one is able “to care, to serve and to lead” as a responsible stakeholder in society.
There is a general awareness that with the prevalence of globalisation, the nature of issues and problems (micro and macro) will continuously change, intertwine and complicate. Therefore the intellectual rigour which I developed over the 6 years would enable me to think out-of-the-box and propose unconventional solutions when approaching these problems.
While nature of challenges may change with the passage of time, fundamental and universal values and principles remain enduring and timeless. This is important because at times we might be so obsessed with achieving success in the things we do that we might forsake our values and morals which might result in undesirable outcomes, as seen from the spate of global problems that arose at the turn of the 21st century. Hence, I would strive to perpetuate and exemplify the school motto, mission, vision and attributes of self-reflection, self discipline and empowerment that underpin positive character building in the public service.
