The inaugural First Youth Water Conference was organized on 19 October 2007 as a post examination activity for Year 2 pupils.
The conference is a platform for our Year 3 and 4 pupils who have embarked on water related projects to share about their experiences. We invited Dr Victor Savage of the National University of Singapore to give the keynote address. His talk on the Global Water Crisis: Challenges and Solutions was most enlightening.
For the concurrent sessions, we had talks by Mr Eugene Heng of Waterways Watch Society on ‘Water is the Giver of life’, Mr Chong Jun Hien of PUB talked on Biodiversity and Ms Jacinta Leong of St Andrews and some of her pupils shared on their river studies project. ![]()
Pupils from Changkat Changi Secondary School, Canossian Convent, and Anglican High School attended the 2nd Youth Water Conference on 21st May 2008 organized by St. Andrew’s Secondary School; this time, the format of the conference was less formal.
There was the Amazing Water Race, the 3-min Challenge and written quiz with a final inter-school water challenge. The team from Dunman High was the overall champion for the final inter-school water challenge.
There was also an increase in the number of schools participating in this second conference.
For 2009, we hope to organize a bigger conference involving youths from the region. Tentatively, the 3rd Youth Water Conference would be on 16 to 19 June 2009.
We would like to involve youths in Problem Based Learning to give them the opportunity to be more engaged in trends and issues on water.
